The GREENIES® Brand partners with AAHA in honor of National Pet Dental Health Month

During the month of February, The GREENIES® Brand is partnering with AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) to support their Helping Pets Fund, a charitable organization that provides financial support for sick or injured pets that are in need of veterinary care. This fund makes a wide range of veterinary services available for pets whose owners have either abandoned them or do not have the financial means to pay for treatment options. Donations from The GREENIES® Brand will help to provide life-saving oral surgeries for dogs and cats in need.

The GREENIES® Brand is asking everyone to help spread the word about important pet oral care information that all pet owners should be conscious of.

More pet owners are aware of the importance that oral health plays in their pet’s overall health and wellbeing. A new study shows that in 2010, 43% of dog owners became more aware of dental health care options for their pet. The study also showed that last year, 77% of pet owners bought dental treats for their pet that they believed to have a positive effect on their pet’s teeth.

While there are tons of dental treats that claim to clean teeth, not all of them are proven to work. Fortunately, there’s an entity administered by the leading veterinary dentists at the American Veterinary Dental College called the Veterinary Oral Health Council (VOHC).The VOHC is similar in nature to the American Dental Association (ADA) but is applied to pet products. Through stringent clinical research and review, the VOHC determines which products on the market are effective to help prevent buildup of plaque and tartar.

 So how can you help? Just share the news!

  • For every blog post written about the importance of the VOHC Seal of Acceptance, The GREENIES® Brand will donate $25 to the AAHA Helping Pets Fund.
  • For every use of #VOHC on Twitter (either through an original post or a re-tweet), The GREENIES® Brand will donate $1 to the AAHA Helping Pets Fund.
